◇ Executive Director’s Message ◇

Launched on 26 July 2000, the UN Global Compact (GC) marked its 20th anniversary with an online celebration hosted by GC Headquarters on 27 July 2020. The number of GC company and organization members continues to increase, not just in Japan, but around the world, with the total number of business and non-business members close to 15,000 today. This is a testament to the growing understanding of and consensus on the importance of bringing all sectors around the world into the GC platform to work together to build a sustainable world for the future, as we face the increasingly serious issues of life, human rights, the economy, society, and education during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with climate change and natural disasters affecting many parts of the world. At the commemoration ceremony, CEO & Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo delivered a powerful statement of intent and called for the world to unite in the face of the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and build stronger public-private-academic partnerships to make Uniting Business for a Better World a reality in the next ten years and for the next century.
